An introductory one-day training course helping you understand how AI systems work under the hood, their strengths, and limitations.
The training event is open to all. There is no registration fee required. To register for the training event, a SAFE login is required. If you do not have an existing SAFE account, please register for one first.
We hear about AI almost every day, but what exactly is it? Why has it arrived now? And what actually happens when you press return to send your query to ChatGPT, Gemini or Claude?
This course is aimed at anyone who is interested in these questions, regardless of whether you have a technical background. It will introduce how AI systems work under the hood, help you understand AI's strengths and limitations, and show you the different kinds of things it can be used for.
The course is an expanded version of the webinar that was delivered in June, with some additional material, some additional practical elements (with associated demos to cater for those without any knowledge of Python) and a short discussion session relating to ethical aspects of AI.
The one-day course will cover:
Instructors: The course will be led by Dr Adam Carter, with colleagues from the Pilot-UKAIFA training team at EPCC.
Requirements: Attendees wishing to take part in the practical components of the course should bring a laptop. Demos and discussion will be available for those with no experience of Python or those who cannot bring a laptop.
Catering: Coffee and Tea will be available at breaks, but please note that this free course does not include lunch. There is a wide range of places to buy lunch near the training venue.
